Daydream.
Bold, 50 ml.
Come with me. I want to show you something, she said, turning over her shoulder and already disappearing through the farmhouse door. I’ll take you to my favourite place in the world.
I ran to catch up and we walked together along the banks of the river for a few minutes before taking a small path to the right where we came to a crest in the hill and a short wire fence. On the other side of the fence, which she hopped over with a calm and practiced ease, was a full field of long grass and yellow flowers. Here, she said, and took my hand as I stumbled over the wobbly stile and into the field. As the field began to slope down toward the strand, there was already a patch of flattened grass where we lay for the rest of the afternoon until the sun passed all the way over, talking on and on about nothing in particular and watching the clouds go by.
After that, all the very best of my days were spent this way, lying in the grass with her, basking in whatever time we had left as spring became summer, the flowers came and went, and the grass turned to gold.
