Cardigan Bay.

The next day, we drove out past Ceredigion to a spot on the coast by St Dogmaels. It was a bright day and tall trees lining the road threw spotted shadows across the car as we drove.

By the late afternoon, we reached the end of the road. We left our car behind and tested our weathered walking shoes on a rocky path up to the cliffs.
Once we got to the top and saw the sea, the horizon rising from the rocks ahead, there was a deep breath and a sense of quiet that I hadn’t felt in days on the road. Behind us, the green fields rolled on over the hills for miles and ahead, the sea was speckled with light and stretched as far as it takes to meet the sky in the middle. Below us, the waves washed gently against the cliffs like white noise.

I remember the turn of her coat collar and her wild hair,  tussled by the wind and resembling in some way the Kites that circled forever overhead.
